Golem (1997)

La MaMa in association with GOH Productions present this performance by The Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre.
The production features seven puppeteers, four dancers, and a cast of small to life-sized wooden marionettes. The dancers, puppets, puppeteers, and musicians freely interact throughout the piece, alternately portraying both the Jewish citizens of the ghetto and their Christian oppressors. The Rabbi is a 48-inch puppet animated by Matthew Lavin.
Golem has about twenty human puppets in all, plus an assortment of fish puppets, dancing mops, and sundry found-object puppets. Six of the puppets are 48 inches high; there are also two hundred-year old puppets in the "cast".;World premiere of the work. A benefit performance and reception was held on the evening of Thursday March 20, 1997.
