Night Stalkers (1997)

La MaMa ETC presented New York Performance Alliance and SHOUT in Night Stalkers, a ritualistic performance-theatre piece based on Beowulf, written and directed by Ernest Abuba with choreography by Shigeko Suga and music composed by Erin Kamler. Ritual Vocal Arrangements by Ellen Stewart and Elizabeth Swados. The piece employed 15 actors and musicians. The production dramatizes the "good versus evil" aspects of the legend, as embodied in the characters of Beowulf and Grendel, using a modern ritualistic text, Butoh movement, chanting in Old English and a score based on the Nordic and Celtic music of the Danish, Irish and Scandinavian cultures.
