Iphigenia In Tauris (1992)
Production
A collaboration of Greek and American theater artists perform Euripides' "Iphigenia in Tauris" under the direction of Greece's Yannis Houvardas. The performance employs a binational ensemble of thirteen actors, with Euripides' text performed in both English and classical Greek. The English portions will be from the translation by Richard Lattimore. The concept, was, to present a play dealing with the interaction of two opposing cultures. "Iphigenia in Tauris," with its journey to Tauris by Orestes and Pilades to rescue Iphigenia, was especially chosen. The play examines how humanity's quest for knowledge leads to magical, painful voyages when new civilizations are confronted.
