"Robert Thirkield acted with the LaMama Company last fall in Yugoslavia, Denmark, Sweden and England. He was featured there in Rochelle Owens' 'Homo', among many other roles. In Denmark, he studied with Eugenio Barba, a disciple of Poland's Grotowski. He was last seen at LaMama as the original Skelly of 'The Rimers of Eldritch'. Astrologically, he is Leo with Aquarius rising and loves opera."

Biography
"Robert Leeming Thirkield, an actor and director and a founder of the Circle Repertory Company, died July 9. He was 49 years old and lived in Manhattan and in Shady, N.Y. As an actor, Mr. Thirkield created roles in ''Futz,'' ''Tom Paine'' and in Lanford Wilson's plays ''Balm in Gilead,'' ''The Mound Builders,'' ''Hot L Baltimore'' and ''Rimers of Eldritch.'' In 1964, with the producer Marshall Mason, Mr. Thirkield founded Northwestern Productions to stage dramas in which they would act. In 1969, with Mr. Mason, Mr. Wilson and Tanya Berezin - to whom he was then married - Mr. Thirkield founded the Circle Rep. He cast and staged many productions for the company. For the last five years he was associate artistic director of River Arts Repertory in Woodstock, N.Y. Officer Janice Swinney, a New York City Police spokesman, said Mr. Thirkield had jumped to his death from his Manhattan apartment. He is survived by a son, Jonathan S. Thirkield; a daughter, Lila Joy Thirkield; a stepson, Jason Gladstone, and a sister, Pamela Nesbet. A memorial service is planned for Aug. 3 at 3 P.M., in the Byrdcliffe Theater on Upper Byrdcliffe Road in Woodstock."
