"Turandot" (2001)

Production

Columbia University's Oscar Hammerstein II Center for Theatre Studies and La MaMa collaborated on this new adaptation of Carlo Gozzi's "Turandot," based on a translation of the Italian original by Nina Hein. This production featured puppetry and traditional commedia dell'arte masks, and was designed as a culmination for Columbia's Class of 2001 MFA acting class, who formed the cast. The production was divided into three casts, delineated in the program as the "Sun," "Year," and "Hope" casts, formed by the same performers alternating roles depending on the cast. The show was performed in two acts, with a ten-minute intermission.
