Universe Expanding (2005)

Production

A world-premiere puppet piece by Catherine Jane Shaw, "Universe Expanding" was inspired by reports that the Hubble Space Telescope is providing evidence that the expansion of the Universe is not slowing down, as had been expected. Instead, it is speeding up, prompting some to speculate that in the distant future, the sky will be cold and black, devoid of sight of any star.

Science, myth and religion were contrasted and unified through visual imagery, text, and music. A metal screen serves as a projection surface, and the audience moved through the space following the action emerging in various locations.

This piece was supported by a grant from the Jim Henson Foundation.
