Civil Disobedience: Morning is when I am awake and there is an aurora in me (1998)
A solo-work from Denise Stoklos. The text is a composite of Thoreau, Gertrude Stein, Paulo Freire, and others. Original performance run from November 18 (preview) to November 29, 1998; the show was extended until December 13, 1998.
The stage environment evokes the woodsy environment of Thoreau's cabin with elements taken from the "forest" of technology in which we now live. A collection of ropes suggests the jail from which Thoreau wrote on civil disobedience.

Following the performance of Friday, November 27, Denise Stoklos celebrates her 30th anniversary in professional theater by holding an informal debate/roundtable with the audience on a variety of topics including solo performance and the nature of experimental theater. Panelists will include Randy Gener,George Kuser, Leslie Damasco, Coco Fusco, and Anna Bernstein.
