Return of the Sodomite Warriors
Work
"Return of the Sodomite Warriors is a hard-hitting, syncopated exploration into growing up gay in America -- from gym class to first dates to back rooms.
The original Sodomite Warriors debuted at La MaMa in 1989 in an evening of works by the performance troupe Watchface. This version consists of seven separate sections dealing with contemporary gay male culture and its tenuous relationship to the straight society in which it dwells. Described by its authors as a "mini-epic", it has sections including "Teenage Forbidden Fruit" about the agony and ecstasy of coming out, "The Marriage of Figaro to Figaro" on the emulation of gay and homophobic straight societies, and "Dance of the Sodomite Warriors" on stereotypes of gay personalities and music."
