Winter Man (1995)
Production
An original musical drama by Cheyenne poet/lyricist Lance Henson and composer/writer Andy Teirstein, which depicted the fate of the Cheyennes in the 1860s through the eyes of two historical figures - "peace chief" Black Kettle and "Dutch" Bill Griffenstein, a Bavarian born Jewish fur trader who lived with and married into the tribe. The production used innovative music and poetry to subtly entwine Native American spirituality with Judaism. Its company of 16 was half Native American.
