The Tempest (1998)
A solo adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" by Lucidity Suitcase Theatre's Thaddeus Phillips. Phillips plays all the characters, representing them with fragments of fabric or ventriloquizing for different puppet-like objects that he pulls from a large chest, all while in the middle of a child's wading pool.;"Prospero recounts his past and plays out an imagined future in his present state floating on an old trunk in the middle of an ocean after having survived a shipwreck. All the objects at his disposal are used as the characters in The Tempest. Miranda is a child's doll found floating in the water, Ariel is Prospero's reflection in a mirror, and Caliban his shadow. Fingers, puppets, sunglasses, hats, and lights transfor into the other characters. The performance is played on a trunk in the middle of a children's swimming pool. A "sail" is suspended over the pool by ropes and pulleys and serves as the sea, the sky, Prospero's magic cloak, a shadow screen, and a parachute.
