Mishima Montage

Work

This new project, a blend of large-format video and live stage action, explores the poetic heights and obsessive depths of one of this century's most controversial  writers, Yukio Mishima, who took his life in a ritualized suicide in 1970. Mishima embodied many of the conflicting passions of our time: conservatism and sensuality, romanticism and confusion wrought from rapid societal change. Both a literary genius and a rabid imperialist (who organized paramilitary groups in his own country), he was a poet and novelist of tragic proportions.
