Bizarre Flea Market & Mega Cabaret
Special Event
Some of La MaMa's most celebrated performers returned for the theater's first-ever benefit and Thirtieth Anniversary Party on January 11 with a Marathon Cabaret bash in La MaMa's Annex Theater. Artists whose work was nurtured by Ellen Stewart's historic theater filled its largest performance space with an into-the-night program of nonstop music, dance, and downtown dazzle. The cabaret was preceded by La MaMa's first-ever sale of exotic theater memorabilia from its long-held treasure trove of costumes, props, posters, production photos, programs, and original art by La MaMa artists. It is the first collection ever released from the La MaMa Archives, a basement museum at 74A East Fourth Street that is the nation's largest repository of theatrical momentos from the beginnings of Off-Off Broadway to the present. Dubbed a "Bizarre Flea Market," the sale went from noon to 5:00 pm in the Annex lobby.
