La Trota

Work

In this play an old man, trapped by his fetishist acts, turns the trout he has purchased for dinner into a love symbol and the object of an inevitably doomed passion for life.
The play, written and acted by D'Ambrosi, is a silly and painful discourse intended to shake up our preconceptions of normality and mental health. The old man deals with reality from the artificial viewpoint of his room, where he makes a living repairing broken dishes. In the reality of his imagination, conventional values are negated or twisted and work becomes a useless and marginal attempt to fight consumerism.
The play is a powerful study in alienation. D'Ambrosi, playing the old man in a woolen cap with chinstrap covering his bald head, wrestles with imagined forces of evil, frighteningly and accurately mimics petits mals and seizures.
