Video Work: Documentation of "Godsong" (1976a)

Audio/Visual

This video documents the April 1976 La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club production of “Godsong”, which was adapted from God's Trombones: Seven Negro Sermons in Verse, a 1927 book of poems by James Weldon Johnson. The production was adapted, directed, and composed by Tad Truesdale, with musical direction and arrangements by J. Hamilton Grandison. This video was originally shot using a Portapak camera, and camera originals are spread across two separate half-inch open reels (numbered F20 and F21 in La MaMa’s collection).
