This poster depicts the silhouette of a feminine face with long hair surrounded by images of flowers and text. The artists uses negative space in this black and white poster signed "Brainard 65." This is one of two posters created for the 1965 production of Love Song for Mrs. Boas, written by Ruth Landshoff Yorck and directed by Neil Flanagan, which opened March 15, 1965.

Joe Brainard (1942-1994) was an American artist and writer associated with the New York School who was notable for his collages, poetry, and paintings. His theatrical work included set and costume designs for Frank O'Hara's The General Returns from One Place to Another and LeRoi Jones's The Baptism, as well as sets and costumes for the Louis Falco Dance Troupe and the Joffrey Ballet Company. He also designed the covers of a great number of poetry books and magazines.
