Chinese Theatre Group

The Chinese Theatre Group was formed by Tisa Chang within La MaMa around 1973, after she directed "The Return of the Phoenix" separately from La MaMa Chinatown. The group’s productions, under the direction of Chang, took an intercultural approach and integrated traditional Chinese theatre styles with bilingual dialogues. It became an independent company in 1977, and was renamed Pan Asian Repertory Theatre.
