Video Work: Documentation of "Sister Sadie" (1972)

Description: This video documents the 1972 La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club production of "Sister Sadie." The production was a collaboration between two up-and-coming African American artists - author Clifford Mason and director Allie Woods - and told the story of an African American woman and the family she is fighting to hold together. The footage of this production is very dark. This video was originally shot using a Portapak camera, and camera originals are spread across two separate half-inch open reels (numbered B16 and B17 in La MaMa's collection).
